it’s a milestone in one’s life…and some parents want to celebrate it. also I’ve seen parents in the US usually celebrate in a way that makes the kid feel happy and confident abt the changes happening to them. it’s a good mix of traditional and modern values.

Half saree isn't just to tell she is ready for marriage. Peddamanishi avvatam is a big thing in a woman's life according to our culture and society. So they celebrate that happiness with other close families.

People who do these functions to just show off isn't good though.

Its a function celebrated in women progressing in her career, its like a next step achieved. 

Women need to get matured, educated, independent, career, married, kids, etc etc., to achive all these, she has to progress accordingly per timelines, and around 11-14 girls ahive this maturity which ofcourse is an achievement and that needs to be celebrated irrespective of countries we live in. I dont understand why there is not a reason to celebrate this proud moment.

This moment one of the best achievement in women's life.
