More than PAN india it is important to produce content oriented films. Kwood & Malayalam movies are way on top of giving strong content based quality cinemas. 

Twood is more of heroism based masala movies, just because baahubali and RRR made good money and reach doesn't mean twood is ruling in PAN india movies.

In the recent times quite a few Tamil movies got recognised for their storyline and content across the country. ‘Vikram Vedha’, ‘Soorarai Pottru’, ‘Jai Bhim’ and ‘Maanaadu’, to name a few, are now being remade in other Indian languages.

• Mani Ratnam and Shankar never had pan-India craze like SSR. They depended on successful Tamil actors who are familiar to Bollywood or controversial topics for Bollywood release. Art film lovers thappa general audience Mani Ratnam ante vadevadu antaru... So, vaalla movies ni SSR movies tho compare cheyyalem.
• Malayalam art films are boring for most audience in India. But vaallu social media and youtube lo maa industry goppa movies teesthundi, migilina vaallu chetta movies teestunnaru ani spam chestaru.
