Well, my sources are also government doctors. My uncle is a Gynecologist and my cousin as well joined as a contract gynecologist in a PHC. One of my closest friends is a Asst. Civil surgeon in a government hospital. The information about the focus on health is from them. Well they might be biased as well.

I was told the following info today:

PHCs have a doctor + nurses assigned but the doc almost always has his own practice. Timings are around 9 am - 4 pm but it seems you will never find the doctor there, and his visits are very irregular. Ultrasound machines are found in many CHCs not PHCs but this was the case even before Jagan. Normally ultrasound machines are operated by gynaecologists, radiologists and sometimes nephrologists but our PHC has an ENT doctor and neighbouring PHC has a skin doctor. Some PHCs long back also used to do operations like caesareans, tubectomies and vasectomies if its doc is capable but now they have cut down those and are only performing tubectomies in our surrounding area.

Forget PHCs, CHCs, even district govt hospitals are not maintaining their equipment very well. Buying equipment is in their best interest due to kickbacks or commissions involved but there is no incentive to go further than that.

Now this is what I heard from different docs yesterday and today. But I've also seen the same first hand with our other departments like aqua testing labs and veterinary clinics. Last year, for some purpose, I travelled almost an hour to an Aqualab in Rajahmundry and it seemed like a huge govt office in a 2000 sq yard space but they won't even do basic water testing (due to no technician) that even 2 tiny room private labs do for Rs.150 in Amalapuram. Veterinary kuda, I never found the doc despite going there 4-5 times for three different purposes. The nurses would just try to do everything on their own and they were pretty inexperienced. They made me buy the injections from outside, didn't even help me put my 35 kg golden retriever on the table because they were scared (??), and then screwed up few times trying to collect the blood because they kept injecting the needle in wrong areas and no blood would come out. Then they asked me to submit this to a diagnostic lab nearby for platelet count. But when I went there, the lab guy was furious at them for referring his lab and said "we do reports only for humans, not animals". I've had nothing but terrible experiences in every govt institution (state or central) from including banks, DIC,fisheries, power department. Nurses/clerks/peons/linemen/watchmen tappa vere vallu once in a fortnite kanbadtaru. Me juniors join ayyaru kada, one or two years tarvata malla adugu about their experiences.

its ok ba. "gourmet tourism" will solve it - in a place where there is no regular electricity and incomes less than many african countries.

Or like our narsy @Raven_Rayes says "few young men" will come up and set up hospitals with all equipments. Followed by "few young men" who will run them properly.

Electricity issues matram so much frustrating even with an inverter. It isn't like load shedding in the past where govt would remove 1-4 hours of power in rural areas in scheduled times. Roju ki ten times ayna potadi, doesn't matter what time be it early morning 6 or late night 1. Eppudu ostado evadki telidu. Invertor 6-8 hours ostadi with minimal usage of appliances but 6 months lo atleast 10 times chusunta where invertor also would go down. Inta worst power situation eppudu chudaledu and I shudder to think about majority of people who don't own invertors. Power sarigga lekapoyna, current bill matram im getting new highs this year that I have never seen before
