there are market reasons for semiconductor forays not being a success in India. main reason is that the entire market for engineering electronic products is in Taiwan and to an extent china. It makes no sense to manufacture chips here and send them to taiwan, when taiwan already has the worlds largest chip making faciliity.

eventually India will have a fab, but to speed it up first India needs a monstrous electronics engineering infrastructure. big design companies like Quanta, Wistron. Not body shops relying on cheap labour. Govt can try to disrupt this supply chain with targeted investments into electronics manufacturing instead of running behind big names that are trying to take advantage of the $60bn fund/tax benefit Indian govt has provided for semiconductor manufacturing.

India will not have a state of the art chip making facility just because govt throws in money.

none of the state is going to get it. Its a scam by companies who'll bring in max 28nm tech to India and claim the money that Indian govt has on offer. plus land and other subsidies.

KTR inviting foxconn executive at the airport is all useless bs. In end a bunch of young Indians with chip startups reaching critical mass will force the companies actually capable of producing leading edge tech to consider investing in manufacturing in India.

Why didnt those "young people" did not magically appear till now. India not only produced numerous professionalls working in worlds top chip companies but also had for decades companies like Texas Instruments in india. 

Without involvement of politics nothing happens. Hyd was a back water in IT in early 90s. Everyone knows who did what to it.
