The former leader had been delivering a stump speech at an event ahead of Sunday’s upper house elections when the apparent sound of gunshots were heard, national broadcaster NHK and the Kyodo news agency said. Japanese news sources are reporting that is heart has stopped (心肺停止), and that he has now been taken by helicopter to a fancier hospital where they are attempting to revive him.
