During Modi 1.0, Over Rs. 4.3 Lakh Crore Worth of Tax Concessions Given to Corporates

₹1.45 lakh crore corporate tax cuts finalised by govt in 36 hours

September 2019, the government had announced a cut in base corporate tax for then existing companies to 22 per cent from 30 per cent

Adani's wealth increased from USD 8.9 billion in 2020 to USD 82.2 billion in 2021 and that of Ambani's saw a rise from USD 36.8 billion in 2020 to USD 85.5 billion in 2021. Mukesh Ambani, who runs the oil-to-retail conglomerate Reliance Industries, continues to be the richest Indian with a wealth of USD 103 billion, a 24 per cent rise year-on-year

Wealth of Indian billionaires go up during lockdown while millions lost livelihoods

It would take an unskilled worker 10,000 years to make what Mukesh Ambani made in an hour during the pandemic and 3 years to make what he made in a second.

The report shows how the rigged economic system is enabling a super-rich elite to amass wealth in the middle of the worst recession and the biggest economic crisis in the history of independent India, while millions of people are struggling to make ends meet.

The report notes that billionaires such as Mukesh Ambani, Gautam Adani, Shiv Nadar, Cyrus Poonawalla, Uday Kotak, Azim Premji, Sunil Mittal, Radhakrishan Damani, Kumar Manglam Birla and Laxmi Mittal working in sectors like coal, oil, telecom, medicines, pharmaceuticals, education, and retails increased their wealth exponentially since March 2020 when India announced world’s biggest COVID-19 lockdown and economy came to standstill. On the other hand, data has shown that 170,000 people lost their jobs every hour in the month of April 2021.

While the national minimum wage has remained at Rs 178 a day since 2020, Adani witnessed his net worth multiply by eight times in a year -- from USD 8.9 billion (Rs 65,860 crore) in 2020 to USD 50.5 billion (Rs 3.73 lakh crore) in 2021

Thecountry’s healthcare budget saw a 10% decline from RE (Revised Estimates) of 2020-21. There was a 6% cut in allocation for education. The budgetary allocation for social security schemes declined from 1.5% of the total Union budget to 0.6%.

Modi gave away to Jeff Bezos as well, anduke his wealth grew 54% during pandemic too

How Billionaires Got $637 Billion Richer During the COVID-19 Pandemic (businessinsider.com)

I clearly wrote individual tax benefits mr.modi gave to corporates during pandemic in lakhs of crores... And not just during pandemic..even during his 1.0 tenure.. with proofs.

And as gst increased ..health benefits declined for poor ! Where is his high gst taxes being collected from poor going ? Well in to the incentives of his lobbyists in terms of tax incentives in lakhs.

Jeff Bezos wealth  multiplied as his business grow multiple times as people ordered more stuff through Amazon to avoid physical contact during pandemic ..

.not just Amazon even insta cart multiplied it's wealth.. check list of door delivery companies that seen business boom... And you are using this fact to disguise diversion of tax collected from gst to incentives of the rich ? Shame shame shame .

Your example is not result of tax benefits ..where as modi boot lick policies where clearly directed at his beneficiaries...while he gave gyan not to give freebies to public ..he gave lot of freebies to his political contributors...  As they amassed wealth by policies that made their process of acquiring the public assets in to private hands a very easy and walk in the park process.

And of course andh bhakts are there to keep silent even when he started imposing gst on milk and curd.

what you say is the only truth, anyone who contradict with you are andh bhakts

reducing corporate tax does not mean boot licking, those pea brains who cannot underatnd capitalism and who want to still live in the norms set by failed govts, such people should wait for 72,000 rupee per year schemes to come

there is a section of people who have developed hatred at genetic level against Modi, they should be called "Andh" not those who can see the growth of india, narrow ideas like curd is being taxes, drawers are being taxes have no clue about  system changes happen for good

there are more freebies acrross indian than ever before, where do you think all the money comes from if goods are not taxes and new areas of taxation not introduced from before

socialism is fancy until it fails the country, there are allways going to a section that keeps blaming Modi for invigorating the private sector

Name calling like sickularism, anti nationalists, socialists is what modi supporters use to defend his supreme leader blindly.

Reducing corporate tax while increasing gst on regular public including milk and dairy is  a capitalism mantra only intelligent modi followers can understand ? What kind of capitalism is this that raises taxes on regular public but diverts the incentives to his lobbyists ?

First you dismissed the incentives quoting Amazon returns .

Now you defending the incentives .what a change of tone in just two replies.

Now intellectual intelligent as they claim themselves but not andh bhakts ..poruing lakhs of crores not even thousands as a capitalism gain for the country .. really ? Then why our gdp growth declined ...while the Adani wealth multiplied ? It should obviously work right ? Did it ..nope ?

Now please don't bring the PPT showcasing magic numbers next to picture of vishwaguru ... That you guys use for propaganda ?

https://www.opindia.com/2019/07/a-dangerous-development-oxfam-india-ceo-invites-congress-to-form-an-alliance-with-civil-society/amp/

Amitabh Behar, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Oxfam India, recently wrote a fawning article on the Congress party. In the article, Behar offers numerous sermons to the Congress party and eulogizes its idea of India.

It’s extremely troubling as Oxfam is an international organization with interests that do not appear to align with the national interests of our country. That an international organization that claims to be an ordinary Non-Government Organization is directly interfering with the politics of the country should ring alarm bells at the highest echelons of power.

Behar’s article displays blatant political partisanship as he eulogizes the Congress party while demonizing the current ruling dispensation. It’s also a foreign-funded NGO registered under the FCRA Act with registration number 231661035. That the CEO of Oxfam India is directly attempting to influence the politics in the country sets a dangerous precedent as international organizations and hostile countries could use FCRA NGOs to influence the outcomes of Indian elections. It is a threat to the sovereignty of the country and has profound implications for our national interests as well.

Behar says of the Congress, “The Congress has been a banyan tree of ideas under which a broad range of multiple and even diverse ideas have been nurtured and nourished as long as they have a common core ethos—which is in line with the fundamentals of the ideological frame of the Congress and the idea of India.”

The CEO of Oxfam also argues that the Congress party should work closely with “civil society”, a euphemism for foreign-funded NGOs and others that have close ties with ‘Urban Naxals’. He argues that Congress should enter an “alliance” with civil society and reach out to such organizations with “due humility” to ensure the revival of the party.

He writes, “It is evident that a robust civil society needs an enabling environment in which their primary right to exist and civic right of association or function is not stifled. With this backdrop, the Congress would benefit significantly by working in close or loose coordination (or alliance) with civil society, which can strongly help in amplifying the issues of the common and marginalized people. This could revive the movement space of the Congress by foregrounding people’s issues and also help in mass action. On the other hand, the Congress must with due humility reach out to civil society and adopt/imbibe the people’s agenda and build traction for the core issues of poverty, exclusion and development.”

It is important to remember that the Congress party has allied with foreign-funded organizations inimical to Indian national interests in the past. For instance, people associated with foreign-funded organizations were part of the National Advisory Council committee that drafted the anti-Hindu Communal Violence Bill.

The Congress party is suffering a huge crisis as a consequence of its great

defeat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. At such a critical juncture for the party, the CEO of Oxfam India appears to be inviting the Congress party to engage in a quid pro quo deal with civil society.

In its desperation, if the Congress party does decide to ally with such organizations, it will provide an opportunity for international institutions to interfere with the democratic process of India. It could have grave consequences for our country and it ought to concern every citizen of this country regardless of their political orientation. The Government of India, too, ought to follow the matter closely and take steps to ensure that the sovereignty of our country isn’t compromised by international organizations.

Oxfam says reporting rape cases harms black and marginalised people, blames ‘privileged white women’ for root causes of sexual violence

  • OpIndia Staff | 12 June, 2021
  • Oxfam training manual says reporting crimes of sexual assault and rape is akin to fuelling violence against minorities(Image Courtesy: CNN)

An Oxfam training document recently suggested that “privileged white women” were supporting the ‘root causes of sexual violence’ for wanting assailants imprisoned because it disproportionately affects minorities.

Oxfam, which has been mired in controversies over a host of sex scandals, including claims that employees used underage prostitutes in Haiti, compiled a PowerPoint presentation through its LGBT network that claimed mainstream feminism supports ‘the root causes of sexual violence’ by presenting white women as ‘victims’ and which in turn justifies the excessive punishment for ‘black and other marginalised people’.

The slide shows a sobbing woman, accompanied by a message that says mainstream feminism centres on privileged white women as victims and demands that ‘bad men’ be fired or imprisoned. It says that fighting against sexual assault legitimises criminal punishment, which harms black and other marginalised people.

The Oxfam training manual draws inspiration from the book Me Not You: The Trouble with Mainstream Feminism, authored by Alison Phipps, a professor of gender studies at Sussex University. Phipps describes herself as a political sociologist ‘focusing on mainstream Western feminism, especially movements around sexual violence’. The book concludes that mainstream feminism is supporting, not undoing, the root causes of sexual violence.

Summarising the main theme of the book, the Oxfam presentation says that white feminists need to ask themselves whether they are causing harm when they fight against sexual violence.

According to Naomi Cunningham, a discrimination and employment law barrister, the message from the contentious PowerPoint presentation seemed to allege that woman who report a rape or sexual assault case to police are considered as hateful “white feminist”. This is a classic case where victims are blamed and tried to silenced for the atrocities committed upon them, she said.

She slammed the document that indirectly tried to suggest a woman stoically endure sexual assaults and rapes committed on them and refrain from reporting them to police. “I think any woman could make an arguable case that this has created or contributed to an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment, which is how the Equality Act defines harassment,” she added.

Charges of sexual exploitation against Oxfam staff

It is noteworthy to mention that while the Oxfam training manual hold victims responsible for the sexual assaults committed on them, in 2018, Oxfam was at the centre of a raging turmoil after its staff members in Haiti were accused of using underage prostitutes. It was reported that the Haiti Oxfam chief solicited prostitutes in a villa which was paid and provided for by Oxfam, exposing the dark underbelly of international charity organizations and NGOs in general.

This was not an isolated case. A year later, similar allegations of sexual exploitation were levelled against the Oxfam employees in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Two employees were suspended as a part of an “external investigation” into the matter.

However, according to The Times, whistleblowers were “frustrated at the length of time taken to complete the investigation”. Former and current staff members of Oxfam made allegations of sexual exploitation, bullying, fraud, and nepotism against 11 people in a letter sent to the Oxfam leadership.

After Oxfam’s Haiti sexual exploitation scandal came to light in 2018, the charity promised to bring reforms and changes, but the reemergence of allegations revealed that changes if made, were not sufficient. The UK Charity Commission concluded that Oxfam had a “culture of poor behaviour” and was issued with a warning over its “mismanagement”. In the wake of this scandal, thousands of people cancelled their regular donations to Oxfam, causing Oxfam to make cuts worth 16 million British pounds.

Oxfam India and its deference to the Congress party

It is to be noted that the CEO of Oxfam India, Amitabh Behar, wrote a fawning article on the Congress party. In the article, Behar offers numerous sermons to the Congress party and eulogizes its idea of India. Furthermore, a Board Member of Oxfam India was involved in the drafting of the deeply dangerous and anti-Hindu Communal Violence bill
