Going to India - transit through UK - anyone here who has done this recently?

I just finished booking my ticket to go to India in October. There is a layover in London Heathrow for about 4 hours.

I am facing a tricky situation in figuring out to see if I need a transit visa for UK.

SCENARIO 1-

When I went to www.gov.uk to the visa section it says "You do not need a visa to come to the UK" based on my input details - that I am an American citizen, purpose of travel - transit and final destination "somewhere else" (other than Channel Islands or Isle Of Man or Republic of Ireland).

SCENARIO 2 - But in the same website it says for all non-European citizens a transit visa maybe needed.

I am going to make further inquiries but has anyone traveled to India through UK and back from India to US through UK- and can you please let me know if you needed a transit visa to the UK?

Thanks in advance.

One word advice - cancel.

Go through middle east.

I've citizenship, I'll never go through hole airport like LHR.

I just realized I cannot cancel it without losing some money on refund.

Your issues with LHR was it due to transit visa issues or other issues.

As an American citizen did you need to get a transit visa?

The UK government office website says that if you are an American citizen you do not need a transit visa.

I must add it was a result of me logging in my details into a questionnaire.

Nonetheless, US citizens do not require a visa to enter UK.

I meant, even though I don't need visa I won't travel through LHR.

Even when they don't have capacity issues or not much traffic here is what they used to treat India bound flights

- Force everyone to go through main terminal and go through security check again.  WHY? If a person didn't leave airport, then why secuirty check again and force you to discard carry on items which are allowed inbound flight.

- NO GATE for India bound flights

They'll park the flight some where on runway even if it is december cold night or July hot mid-day - and use buses to transport people. Why? Save few bucks on Gate charges (told by pilot himself).

Fukkk  them

How much money you are going to lose? You may find cheaper flights via Middle east and negate some of that
