as long as the economy is good, crime will be low. whatever 'criminals' do exist can be negotiated with by the police to keep their activities without getting mainstream attention. once the economy goes to sh1t (which it will), none of these gadgets and shiny buildings can stop people from coming up with ingenious ways to benefit themselves by breaking the law.

including bombing the said shiny building.

so in good times, they like to have fun with cool cars, just like your s/w engg.
