Gilchrist had good team too .. when Ponting was injured he got opportunity to lead .. but he was not that impactful as captain like how Ponting used to be .. 

Ponting when he got captaincy he was extremely lucky to have world-class team .. which was built by Border, Taylor and S.Waugh .. kani Ponting career ending lo he had lost form .. and also few players got retired .. so he was not that impactful ..

Reason simple baa great batsmen will analyze how he would play  in that situation and try to bring on a bowler who will break that...where as bowlers they usually go by rhythm ...
