BCCI plans to hold IPL 2024 from March 22 to May 26

The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is anticipated to commence on March 22, precisely five days after the scheduled conclusion of the Women's Premier League (WPL). The IPL is set to run until May 26, just five days before the commencement of the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the Caribbean. However, India's first match in the World Cup is scheduled nine days later, on June 5.

According to the tentative schedule discussed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) with its stakeholders, the second season of the WPL will take place from February 22 to March 17. As previously reported, the league will be hosted in Bengaluru and Delhi. The official announcement of the dates is expected in a day or two, most likely on Monday.

As reported by Cricbuzz earlier, the IPL schedule is intricately connected to the General Election timetable. The BCCI is discreetly considering holding the tournament in the window between March 22 and May 26. The confirmation of the schedule can only be made after the election dates are announced, but the BCCI is confident in conducting the entire league in India.

 

The BCCI has received assurances from most cricket boards that their players will be available until the final. However, given that the T20 World Cup is commencing on June 1, early departures of some players cannot be ruled out. But at this stage, the primary concern of the BCCI is to align the schedule with the general elections and hold the league in India.
