Check these:

1) Decide on area based on decent schools.

2) No corner lot with 2 side roads.

3) Facing:   desi's  mostly prefer EAST/WEST , sometimes also NORTH. Personal preference anuko , lot of people I saw suggest others that it doesn't matter but they at last end up buying EAST/WEST ( just to avoid any mental disturbance later).

4) Don't look at others and buy bigger homes, if you cannot afford. Buy decent size ( close to 2000 sft) as a starter home.

5) Street facing house (again personal preference , but most Desis avoid it).

If don't want to build new home , either look for inventory homes or 1 year old homes on zillow.

Ayyundocchu… that’s why they suggest to keep transformer or iron poll or some ganesha idol infront of the house as a remedy

less privacy , lot of foot traffic , cars especially if you have stop sign.

some city's will more restrictions on the corner lot , if you want to build something later you have consider those.

Headlight's flashing in the night from cars.

Of course sound from traffic.
