Quite common, there are few communist who changed and went to devotion. 

Chalam is one example, he wrote lot of books and at the end he settled in Arunachalam and waited for ramana maharshi and died at same place. never know when ppl change all for good.

Gaddar gaadi philosophy okkatey. Communism ni addu pettukoni money pogesukovali. That never changed.

 

varavara rao has been in jail for long time. Tirupati mla bhuma karunakar reddy last year vp venki naidu ki letter rasadu. Manamandaram emergency arrests lo pakka pakkana unnam. Varavara rao gurunchi meeku telusu kada. Bayatiki thisukuradaniki help cheyyandi ani.. ee gaddar gaadu mathram zero effort.

Almost all the communists lost their mojo after collapse of soviet union ,the few that remained are too idealistic or just earning money on party's name

Most of the ex naxals and their gang turned into extortion business/drug supy, etc.  gadhar was doing land settlements or mediations from the 90's itself. By 2005-06 maoists were almost eliminated from the state and they lost extortion business too.  

So coming to your question , gadhar got disillusioned with communism long ago , it was just profitable to keep the facade for sometime

Personally not a fan of communism. But i have huge respect for varavara rao. He believed communism and followed it 💯 % with out any financial cheating
