MoviePass - only way they can succeed is to become ticket reseller like fandango and atom.. not by giving debit cards

Last time our desis abused it to the core - even with so many restrictions in place later.

They are releasing in dallas - good luck to MoviePass team. Desi population is now twice if not more now.

Their business model..is not selling movie tickets or subscriptions…

your location…

Location is not worth 10 to 15$ each time.. Google already knows and they sell it for fraction of the cost

The idea of MoviePass was to profit from several revenue streams: subscription fees, advertising, user data, and sales by distributors. When Helios & Matheson acquired the company, the focus was on data, which was already their product. That’s why MoviePass opted for that inexplicable reduction in plans’ price to $9.95: The greater the volume of users, the greater the volume of data for commercialization.

This strong client base would also allow for better agreements with the major chains, increasing the income from concessions, in addition to the possibility of creating their own content — their own studio — which would also share space in the movie theaters of the major players. But, truth be told, MoviePass actually didn’t find out how to make money! And, when the new big entrants came into the market, that was the last straw.

Our data is their product …this app might have failed..but it has our data which is permanent  in their servers…under capitalism our data is long term investment for them…

I doubt how much data they have... Not even credit card data ( and associated address etc), most people got it from Costco...

I agree with what they said about business model but model itself is flawed..

Do you think movie pass bankrupt because of desis … motham usa attack cheisndhi danni

Not just desis, but I'm sure others won't be able to damage that desis did.

Even mission impossible movie ticket rate is same on first day, but even 3rd tier flop movie also is priced at 15 to 20$ for first few days and they made 300k to 700k just because of it.

MoviePass Was Collecting A Ton Of Your Data

Generally speaking, the things we use that appear to be free are actually anything but. For example, a journalistic website that charges nothing for their articles is being paid by marketers for ad revenue space. Facebook mines your data and sells it to advertisers. MoviePass was no different.

MoviePass envisioned itself as something much, much more than a ticket purchasing app. According to CEO Mitch Lowe:

At MoviePass our vision is to build a complete night out at the movies. We are exploring utilizing location-based marketing as a way to help enhance the overall experience by creating more opportunities for our subscribers to enjoy all the various elements of a good movie night. We will not be selling the data that we gather. Rather, we will use it to better inform how to market potential customer benefits including discounts on transportation, coupons for nearby restaurants, and other similar opportunities. Our larger goal is to deliver a complete moviegoing experience at a price anyone can afford and everyone can enjoy.

After those comments were made, MoviePass actually suspended their location tracking - but MoviePass clearly hoped one day users would be able to plan entire evenings through their app alone.

thats all marketing talk - fact is google can do all this, even without explicitly enabling location sharing. google for it - CNBC did a investigation few years back - even after taking out SIM card , wifi off and turning off location sharing, google is able to gather ton of info and upload it when it is back online.
