Former Pakistan umpire and first-class cricketer, Asad Rauf, has passed away at the age of 66.

As reported by 24NewsHD TV, his brother Tahir confirmed the sad news of his demise, and said that Rauf was going back home after shutting his shop when he felt chest pain.

The former ICC umpire suffered a cardiac arrest and couldn't survive. He was part of the elite panel of umpires from 2006 to 2013, and before that played first-class cricket between 1977 and 1991.

Rauf started umpiring in 1998, and was appointed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in 2000. Rauf was included in the international panel of umpires in 2004, and a year later, officiated in his first Test match. He was promoted to the elite panel of umpires in 2006.

In all, Rauf umpired in 49 Tests, 98 ODIs, 23 T20Is in Men's cricket and 8 Women's T20Is. He also officiated in the Indian Premier League (IPL), before being suspended by the ICC as his name cropped up in the 2013 spot-fixing scandal. Rauf denied the charges but never umpired again.

He was found guilty and banned by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for five years in 2016. Presently, he ran a shop in Landa Bazaar in Lahore where he sold garments, shoes and other items.
