What kind and how much radiation is produced by a nuclear power plant?

An operating nuclear power plant produces very small amounts of radioactive gases and liquids, as well as small amounts of direct radiation. If you lived within 50 miles of a nuclear power plant, you would receive an average radiation dose of about 0.01 millirem per year. To put this in perspective, the average person in the United States receives an exposure of 300 millirem per year from natural background sources of radiation.

What happens to radiation produced by a plant?

Nuclear power plants sometimes release radioactive gases and liquids into the environment under controlled, monitored conditions to ensure that they pose no danger to the public or the environment. These releases dissipate into the atmosphere or a large water source and, therefore, are diluted to the point where it becomes difficult to measure any radioactivity. By contrast, most of an operating nuclear power plant's direct radiation is blocked by the plant's steel and concrete structures. The remainder dissipates in an area of controlled, uninhabited space around the plant, ensuring that it does not affect any member of the public.

Are nuclear plant workers radioactive themselves?

Nuclear plant workers are no more radioactive than anyone else. Except in unusual circumstances, such as an accident at the plant, workers receive only minimal does of radiation and rarely become contaminated with radiation. It is important to remember that being exposed to radiation does not make one radioactive, except in very specific circumstances.

em matladuthunnav ma....radiation anta duram detect aithe asalu enduku run avnistharu people.  govt cant take that liability either

the onus is on the person to prove that staying 10 or 20 miles near NP got them cancer, govt has no freaking liability to those bough homes close to NP

it is virtually impossible to fight a case against govt and win as individuals, so analyze it before buying is the best option

another reason for not staying closer to NP is fukushima like incident, natural calamities can create disaster situations near NP

ask those who work in medical MRI facilities or chemical labs hosting NMR spectrometers, they would frequently have headaches from RF

all the highlighted words are gambling the facts, all those mean only one thing ie there is no evidence gathered about impact yet, if you have evidence go and fack around at courts

Nuclear plants go through rigorous safety checks. However it does not mean they are 100% safe. It’s impossible to test your blood samples for radiation content.

It’s a gamble one must take on their own

Thyroid cancer incidence in the vicinity of nuclear sites in Belgium, 2000-2008 - PubMed (nih.gov)

Conclusions: No evidence for excessive thyroid cancer incidence around the Belgian nuclear power plants was found. On the other hand, an increased incidence of thyroid cancer was observed around the sites with other nuclear activities. Further research is recommended to verify whether the observed increases could be related to the site-specific nuclear activities.

No one would do further testing to prove it out.

It all depends on how much radiation is contained by those individual plants. Also inspections are usually performed yearly. Hypothetically speaking a nuclear plant can be lax around the year and can have everything in control just before inspection. It’s hard to rely on these compliance inspection data.

I wouldn’t trust anyone or anything if it comes to radiation crap. It’s just too much risk at stake.
