Remakes and their history in Tollywood

Remakes are a part and parcel of Indian cinema. Right from when cinema was born in India, several filmmakers have remade films from Hollywood and so on. For years together, remakes have been safe bets for many directors and actors in the country to make merry at the box office.

In Telugu cinema too, there are so many heroes who have opted for remakes. The latest one is megastar Chiranjeevi who has remade Lucifer from Malayalam in the form of Godfather. Let's look at the Telugu stars and how many movies they have remade in their career.

 

Let's start with NTR. You will be surprised to know that NTR has remade 50 films in his career. Behind him is ANR who has remade 42 films. Venkatesh is known as the remake king and he has done 25 remakes.

>Next in the list is Krishnam Raju, who has remade 25 films and then it is Chiranjeevi who remade 17 movies in his career. Balakrishna and Nagarjuna have remade 12 films each. Then it is superstar Krishna who made 11 remakes and last in the main list is Pawan Kalyan who remade 10 movies in his career. Apart from these top heroes, the tier two stars have also attempted remakes.

These days, remakes are considered not that safe due to the emergence of OTT platforms. As the originals are already available online, most of them are watching them early. So, if one has to do remakes, he needs to think ten times and change the story accordingly to suit the sensibilities of the Telugu audience.
