** H1B & Layoff **

As the economy started slowing down, many companies will start laying off their workforce.

Here are the ways you can save yourself and your family:

1)    Don’t panic - This is the time you require the most stable mind & body. If you panic, your family will panic 10X

2)    Understand and digest (sooner the better) - Nothing personal, it is all business

3)    If you get a notice from HR - Ask them if they are willing to consider any change (more time on payroll, extended medical)

4)    Do NOT SIGNE any documents - HR will trick you to sign documents or you’ll lose your severance package - This is total BS. Once you sign documents, you’re waiving off ALL YOUR RIGHTS

5)    Consult an employment attorney and have them negotiate on your behalf. Mostly, they will be able to get a better deal

6)    If you sense any wrongdoing such as wrongful termination, racial bias, etc. - you better not sign any documents.  If you find out anything later, you can't take your company to court

7)    Most companies prefer not to draw the wrong media or gov agencies' attention - once you loop in a lawyer, they will know you’re serious about the business and can’t BS with you

** Good H1B Hygiene **

1)    Treat every day as the last day in the company

2)    Keep learning about new technology and be aware of market conditions

3)    Invest time, energy, and MONYE to develop networking. It will pay off in the long term and would be super helpful during the crisis

4)    Have a mentor who can guide you to navigate around the different situations

5)    Hire a career coach - One of the best investments you’d make in your life

6)    Keep interviewing outside even if you’re sure about your job/position - Remember, there are always circumstances beyond your control

7)    Stay within your limit - Remember 24*7 that you’re here on a work visa. Don’t go crazy about your spending. Have enough savings for downtime

😎  Learn as much as you can about employment laws, h1b rules, and how the legal system works in the US - If hits the fan, don’t blame others for your ignorance.

9)    Only work with very reliable Desi consulting firms - (Reference check 1000 times)

10)    Always abide by laws and don’t let any temptation take over you (If you know what I mean) - They have systems to track everything (It’s been 300 years since they got independence, so there is nothing new for them)

These are NOT suggestions but my personal experiences learned over 14 years

Gee 4 & 5 points naa life lo levu ela ippudu

4)    Have a mentor who can guide you to navigate around the different situations

5)    Hire a career coach - One of the best investments you’d make in your life

Unemployment benefits gc kkki ossthaaayaaa

Green card holders can only receive unemployment benefits if they lost their job through no fault of their own. If you get laid off due to budget cuts or a lack of work, you may receive unemployment benefits.

Nowadays H1Bs are very smart...doing 2-3 jobs just in case.
