Actually most rich people are not migrating away from California , they are just moving from core city to rich suburbs 

The ones that are migrating away from California are middle class who can't afford the housing

The source of this wealth is mostly tech industry which is a direct result of the world leading universities there , especially Stanford and UC system 

The post WW2 investment in University of California system and public schooling  is the best example of long term vision. 

Generous national investment in R&D ,great weather and high immigration also gave it sharp edge over peers like Massachusetts which also had a great educational institutions

But the results are showing other way 

No on denies CA problems no affordable housing, some great cities ni pitchi rules petti nashnam chestunaru, homelessness, drought concerns 

This is not history,  its happening right now people talk about companies leaving CA , it's economy on  its own is top 5 of the world with minimum natural or no resources 

It's creation of wealth in new fields mobile and IT anuko, auto  , movies anuko 

All these created from no where, and these are created by normal people and most of them might be outside

Anything you name it over last decade which created revolution in the world are born here except Amazon and Microsft ( which them themselves attribute most of the r&d happens in silicon valley)

Companies moved to other states but still and even today many companies got created in CA the way world lives
