She's Nandhini's mother.. She lives in a delusion that Jayam Ravi is her son, but he's not.

chaala mandhi book chadivinollu kooda confuse avtaru about her motivations, thinking that she's pure or heavenly or mysteriuos..

there's a huge backstory for her.. She was the lover of Prakash Raj who was living happily with her, when the then chola king suddenly dies and he's summoned for war.. He refuses to go, but she convinces him to, with promises to get him back after the war somehow..

but with a lot of twists, prakash raj becomes the king. and he's forced to marry a different girl and he feels guilty about it since. Thats  why when the Maduranthakan tries to become the king, prakash raj actually wants to give up the throne...

also there's another huge backstory for why madurantakan's mom doesn't want her son to be their king.. because she knows he's not their son. The real son is someone else and that guy will finally become the chola king.. The real son is the guy Trisha is talking to while watching the song rakshasa mamane.. that guy becomes the king finally.

Jayam Ravi finds all this out and gives up his throne for that guy to become the king. It is actually history that Arunmozhi did give up the throne inspite of the entire court and people wanting him to become the kng, to his uncle.

madurantakan is also nandhini's mom's son.. but she was impregnated against her will by the pandya king who probably r@ped her, coz by then she lost her mind since prakash raj didn't return. Nandhini was also the product of such an act.

so in reallity, Prakash Raj didn't have any kids with nandhini's mom, but everybody thinks he did. And the actual dad of Nandhini is not even Pandya king, though he r@ped her mom.. It was someone random that vandiyadevan meets in his jail cell, who tells him the whole story of how he met nandini's mom. its all funny.

not in the book.. but she's committed to karthi already..

that's because she heard a lot about him before she meets him from Vikram who's a dear friend of Karthi.

Karthi also saves her from a crocodile attack one day while playing in the river, but he doesn't know then that it is the princess he saved. He simply flirts with her and walks away, but she loves him since. that's also why he doesn't recognize her as the princess when he first sees her on the boat. Because he's seen her before and can't believe she's the princess.

Jayam Ravi mentions this many times in the book taht her sister will kill him if he goes to Thanjavur without Karthi. That's why he risks his life to save Karthi.

In the book, its Poonguzhali who saves Karthi and Jayam Ravi. Not the mysterious mandakini.

real life Kundavai finally did marry Vandiyadevan. she was the minister of Arunmozhi's kingdom and ran the kingdom.

but you know with royals right.. all of them have multiple wives and multiple lovers.. so not the modern love story.

Vikram was the lone disappointment with his overacting. but I don't blame him for that. I blame the director for twisting the character in the book and presenting him as a part psycho.

He made this on a tight budget and its impressive to look at.

movie is not moving though, nor does it have anything interesting to say. I prefer movies like Tumbbad compared to crap like this. Or even worse like bahubali. but maniratnam is way too old to make a good movie now. he's far too gone.
