i'm just saying that majority of the scenes have backstories that are shown in snippets, which you can miss if you are watching it casually. so it may feel like nothing is happening, but the movie is actually going at hyperspeed and you've failed to catch up to it. anthe

there's no need to read anything. just watch. ekkaledhantey vadiley. kasta padaku

the film looks much better in second, third viewings.. that is, if you care to watch it after the first time.

antha undhi.. you probably switched off by then.

this is not an easy movie to watch. commercial movie but loaded with dense dramatic material.

especially if you're accustomed to watching tv series that take forever to come to the point. the movie comes to the point on couple dozen occasions, and is making point after point in almost every scene.

the film is alien to Tamils actually. the costumes, locations (not the set designs), even the language, but its only tamils that watched it and enjoyed the movie.

would've been better if it was made exclusively for tamils, without trying pander to non-tamils..

may be maniratnam didn't try to pander, he's naturally the most non-tamil tamil movie maker of his era I guess.

waiting for ott…i normally watch these kind of movies long time…with paly and pause in between with internet research…

good direction and graphics are additional advantage only for me…than plot…

Selvaraghavan who made Yuganiki Okkadu had a much better vision for this movie. The language that late Cholas speak in his movie is a mixture of Tamil and Telugu..

I don't think anyone else can top that movie, in terms of vision for historical fiction. He should've made this movie.

mani did a decent job, but bit underwhelming movie.

graphics are the worst part of the movie (except in the climax fight, which had out of sync bgm).

the other worst part is the night shots, which were obviously taken during the evening with blue filter. looks really ugly and not maniratnamesque. I expected much better.

but the shots of palace insides (without any artificial lighting), and the drama that happens when people are not fighting battles mindlessly is good.

and the costumers are just gorgeous. extremely good. especially of the women.
