I'm just amused at how many non-tamils hate this movie. and for good reason. the plot moves way too fast and its hard to keep track of it..

maniratnam would've been surprised by the cold reception it got outside of TN.

good thing is that mani didn't add any hindutva elements in the movie to pander to non-tamils. even though some tamils are accusing him of trying to make Raja raja chola as Hindu.

mani was forced to shoot in madhya pradesh and north indian sites, only because TN govt refused to give him permission to shoot in TN temples and sites. TN govt is partly to blame for the 'hindutva' looking locations in this movie.

i didn't say you hate this movie. its fine to hate the movie btw. its just a movie. who cares.

spoiler emundhi? nenu chepta neeku 100 spoilers part 2 ki. it won't make any difference to your movie experience. Its not a mystery thriller. The 'twists' are all 1950s twists that you'd have seen in a lot of movies that came after 50s.

this is not an easy movie to watch. commercial movie but loaded with dense dramatic material.

especially if you're accustomed to watching tv series that take forever to come to the point. the movie comes to the point on couple dozen occasions, and is making point after point in almost every scene.

 

I am not a tv series watcher either…, I like pacy narration…. Not ultra pacy like this one though

compared to a simple story like bahubali, where if you switch off on all that anushka parts, you can still follow the movie, because that movie focuses on spectacle of action.

you can take a bathroom break in btwn and not miss much. here you'd miss a lot of finer details that connect to the story over and over.

since the basic plot is complex (and its not even laid out by the end of the part 1 yet). so if you lose the details you feel like you already lost the plot.

even the staging of scenes in unconventional in this movie.. compared to what you are used to in Telugu.

I havent seen gautami putra movie. may be this movie is like that (i'm assuming) more grounded in its drama, than pure adrenaline pumping action thriller like bahubali.

unless they watch part 2 or have read the book.. because the movie has a lot of loose ends and makes no sense as a standalone one.

no one has an idea what prakash raj is thinking (he actually wants to give up the throne).. and who that madhuranthakan is (one passing mention about his claim for the throne which most people will definitely miss), what nandhini has actually done so far (trying to stay in the loop of all the machinations that is happening around her).. most people who like the movie like it because its different from movies they've seen before.

Its a different look for historicals shot in regular lighting for the most part (not green mat shots), and completely personal - the camera is always a couple of feet away from the action. You won't see many dramatic long shots or hyping up of characters - even one as historically significant as Raja Raja Chola is shown in a nonchalant way.

the rest of those who love the movie are those that read the book. espeically 50+ yrs people.

simply impossible for anyone to fully 'get' that film otherwise
