With long term jobs even with less pay, you can settle down and buy a house.

with short term jobs, higher pay and gaps between gigs, you end up earning more or less the same but also relocate a lot with expenses and no stability.

if you are a hardcore and highly experienced who is paid top-dollar (like twice as much as FT), always go for contracts and don’t undersell yourself. I’m a contractor who gets a FT offer from every client within a couple of months of joining them but I decline it politely as the pay cut is like 45% less than my contracting rate and in addition, I would lose the benefits of owing an S-corp, writing off various expenses, 25% SEP-IRA (100% Employer contribution from my company which is free money), I pay myself 60% of contracting rate as salary and the rest is profit, etc. and I won’t be able to write off any of these expenses as a W2 individual. Also while working as W2, the IRS will ask me to shutdown my company due to no income as it’s a hobby. Now with WFH, there is no point in considering FT.

working in DC, you can stay in VA (Chantilly, Centerville, Herndon, Reston), MD, etc. but you’ll end up driving a lot.

Age: 55
High-3: $60,000
Service: 30 years
.015 x 5 x $60,000 = $ 4,500
.0175 x 5 x $60,000 = $ 5,250
.02 x 20 x $60,000 = $24,000
Result: $33,750 (56.25% of high-3)

this fits above person. Chusko lekka veskoni. If he joined at 25 and worked until 55 and max pay was 60k

So you are saying every one that works for the Fed Govt has a salary ceiling of $60k? What you mentioned only applies when that's the case.

You are taking the case of some one random person and extrapolating it to everyone that works or worked for the Federal Govt. Plus in the example I mentioned earlier, I clearly stated the person's military service experience as well, there are plenty of Fed Govt employees who are ex military who put in 20 years of service and get pension from that service as well.

I work for a Federal govt department, but be aware of one thing. Pay isn't bad esp in Federal jobs and the benefits are nice too if you work long enough but unless you are willing to put in atleast 10 years you won't really benefit much from whatever retirement packages they have.

However, forget doing 2-3-4 jobs like 90% of people here do, there will be strict clauses in your employment letter stipulating you to prevent doing this. Em kaadu le ani games adithey bokka lo estharu esp Federal jobs lo ayithe maatram, plus don't expect to take your laptop and work from India for 6-7 months etc

Baa, nenu prime vendor ki FTE, but contract Fed, so nenu chesukovacha? 2 jaaabs ?
