lets see. if twitter checks with credit card used by name and email then it will be hard. still doable but hard.

You way misunderstood what they are implementing.. they are not saying your id or name should match credit card or prove identity. They are just saying - pay 8$  , get blue tick.

it was always a problem. atleast they dont have tick mark. they generally penalize if some celebrity/politician is impersonated and has sufficient following.

good thing is that the real genevieve can now buy a tick and report all other impersonators.

Musk is being naive.. doesn't want to acknowledge " public figure" - in the name of pseudo "equality" and free speech is trying to do something which has lot more problems than just saying - pay 8$

Your understanding of payments is 10 years old...

Half of them pay though apple store and others though PayPal etc... You can have whatever name you want on your credit card or generate 100 virtual credit cards - there is no name on it. When you pay , you get tx approval ....

And, what stops 2 people from having same name ? 

Id and name verification is laborious task - localized to each country. Part of blue check is that - prove your online presence and link it to physical person. Can only be done for fraction of people.
