The movie sucks. simple.

On a technical level, some of the choices maniratnam made for this movie - like keeping the action personal (camera within 5ft of the action and doesn't pan out), shooting in actual forts etc helps the movie give us a feel of the historical era (not the chola one though).

It looks like Maniratnam is doing visual experiments with his audience and doesn't even care to tell a story anymore. Not that I'm complaining.

cinematography baavundi, costume bavunnai, acting baavundhi avanni pakkana pedithey.. the film lacks a compelling narrative. Its a bit all over the place.

harry potter naaku telidhu.. but Lord of Rings is a self contained movie experience. PS1 tho compare chesi insult cheyyaku Lord of Rings ni.

Lord of Rings lo 50% of the material lepesi 3 parts ga teesaaru. the parts that they left out are consistent with what they decided to keep. For example, Gandalf the grey enduku Gandalf the white avtaadu ani oka 50 pages raasthadu backstory.. Just oka dialogue tho finish chesadu.

PS1 is an extremely ambitious hastily made movie. that said, it could've been much worse than it finally turned out to be.

and there's no other indian director who could've made a better film with this story. I can't think of one with that kind of talent that Peter Jackson has.

GoT tho antha compare cheyyaku.. Its a TV show. TV show emundhi ee roju ooru peru teliyani andaru teesthunnaru.
