Qatar spending this much money is absurd... 16 times previous host...

It's a small country, they thought they will become next Dubai and entire world will start coming to Qatar for vacation and also make it's another financial hub etc...

All backfired, people will not go back again after world cup is over...

People losing lives, corruption, Qatar backtracking of alcohol, LGBT rights etc have shut whatever their plan is. 2030 something...

I think money is least of their concerns as it is easy oil money, only $10 billion is invested on 7 stadiums but bulk of the investments went in creating infrastructure like roads and metro

Qatar has spent at least $220 billion on hosting the World Cup. Less than $10 billion of this is on the seven stadiums Qatar built for the games and the one stadium they renovated. The rest was spent on transportation, hospitality, telecommunications and security infrastructure, including $36 billion on a metro system for greater Doha, a new airport, extensive road construction, and over 100 hotels, inter alia.

Yes, they did as part of their 2030 vision or something .

But their reputation is tarnished, especially among European countries.

There is enough competition among gulf countries to attract tourists and investments - Qatar won't be first choice
