Jagan roars for BCs, seeks their support

YSR Congress party president and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday claimed that his government, in the last three and a half years, had totally empowered the Backward Classes so as to make them the backbone of the state.

“We have proved that the BCs do not mean backward classes but backbone class. They might be backward in the past, but now, they are forward in all aspects in our state as our government has provided them confidence and restored their self-respect,” Jagan said, addressing the Jaiho BC garjana rally at Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium in Vijayawada.

He reminded that during his padayatra in 2017-18, he had met representatives of 130 BCs and understood their problems and aspirations.

“In February 2019, we held a BC Garjana at Eluru and came out with a BC declaration, in which we promised to empower them economically and politically,” he reminded.

Stating that he had fulfilled 90 per cent of his promises made to the BCs, Jagan pointed out that as many as 82,000 BCs were given political empowerment in the last three years – starting from the cabinet ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs, mandal parishad and zilla parishad members, sarpanches, ward members, municipal councillors and in nominated positions.

“Today, they look like an ocean in front of me. The BCs are in Jagan’s heart and Jagan is their hearts. Our relationship is beyond comprehension of anybody,” the chief minister said, amidst a thunderous applause.

Jagan said Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu should be reminded that empowering BCs didn’t mean giving them iron boxes, sewing machines and other implements.

“In 2014, Naidu made 114 promises to the BCs, but could not implement even 10 percent of them. You should tell him that you have got political empowerment now and become part of the government,” he said.

Jagan also pointed out that Naidu had cheated women of DWCRA groups by not fulfilling the promise of waiting their loans.

“He threatened the fishermen and barbers who asked him to implement the promises made to them,” he said.

Stating that his government had appointed OBC commission on a permanent basis, the chief minister said 50 percent of the nominated posts to BCs, SCs, STs and minorities.

“This is what is called making BCs as backbone communities,” he said.
