why are you concerning yourself with IMA comments. Its more or less a private association of doctors practicing allopathy who have formed as a Union. they are not representing the govt of India or anything else. They have no locus standi on policy or are sole arbiters of health regarding covid or anything else.

They might have had noble thoughts when they started, but have only morphed into an association that has internal politics and conversion stuff going on.

You should be concerned if ICMR (Indian Council of Medical research) or AIIMS (to a lesser extent) had issued such a statement.

If i have to play a devils advocate they will be now where to found with proper recommendations when the sh*t hits the fan and will blame the govt once people start getting sick with covid.

1. First wave appudu India didn't have an required infra and there was no info on what the virus would do, other than it spreads fast and people will fall sick. nobody knew about vulnerabilities or what set of population will get more affected.

2. So they decided to implement lockdown which has certain set of economic constraints to the people and the country as a whole. The states were supposed to provide the logistics for the migrant workers whether it was food through PDS (most of them have ration cards) or through any state govt mandated schemes. the states pushed it back to Center.

a. As a footnote America under trump decided that they will work as normal and leave it to people to decide who will work and how they will work with masks or not. The chinese are "rumored" to have given vaccines to working populations so as to get the factories working first and then to the retired and old and kids. We don't have official casualty numbers for china but we do have some on Amrica where politics ruled roost and everything went down the drain with respect to casualty figures.

3. most of the migrant workers were from UP, Bihar and Bengal. the states of rajasthan, delhi and Maharashtra (which was under uddhav sarkar then) asked workers to go back homes. That is why you had workers assemble in railway stations and bus stations in large numbers and this would have caused the spread even more and it would have gone to villages where there is basically no health care facilities that you speak off.

4. Nobody asked how the so called worlds best CM's (one in delhi and one self proclaimed in Mumbai) didn't have handle on migrant worker issues.

5. And migrant workers were forced to leave/ walk on the tracks because the state govt refused to help them with basic necessities of food and essential supplies. the questions were supposed to be asked to the sate govt as why when there are timing for trains so many people were made to assemble. but when you are being funded with states money for advts nobody will ask the tough questions which is why the state govts got away scot free.

4. opposition parties tried to use the pandemic to cause maximum casualties by creating more rumors helped with pliant media about trains , prices and number of casualties and what not.

The Prime Minister has always been very effusive in his praise of front line workers and corporates for pitching in. If Azim Premji's name hasn't come out its probably because he didn't want his name to come out or he could have used a PR agency to improve his image like Sonu Sood, even the TATA's and Mahindras along with various corprates helped in funds or moving material. the much maligned Adani used his contacts to facilitate oxgen generating plants to be moved from abroad while the TATA tried to modify a section of their iron and steel industry to generate oxygen and supply during the pandemic. And yes sometimes the corporates should also be praised if they did a good job, otherwise the idiots taking advt. money from them would always be abusing them left and right when it suits them.

The govt didn't throw the rule book at them and facilitate the transport of the said oxygen on a priority basis. the health minister under harshvardhan were giving advisories since Feb about rise in cases. the states which talk about federal structure when it suits them were sleeping regarding oxygen plants.

name one example where country followed a simple request from PM of India without questioning, it happened during LB Shastri asking people to eat only one meal a day to feed our nation which was struggling with food grain shortages.

Lets talk about the politics part of the pandemic now.

The Punjab govt under Capt. Amrinder Singh was sitting on 200-250 ventilators donated under PM cares fund were gathering dust and were not used.

Or did you think the congress govts would have taken better care seeing Punjab and Rajasthan utilizing the ventilators donated by PM CARES fund. they didn't even calibrate the said ventilators and in some states they leased it to private hospitals.

People compare them to Nehru or congress because people with short memories talk like you do, forgetting the work that went in. Maybe you prefer congress govt that charged money in lakhs per body to evacuate during floods in Uttarakhand.

Kerala model of lockdown worked for the 1st wave and it failed when a more virulent strain came about during the second wave in delta variant. the govt needed to move quickly. There were only two states in the country that didn't have a first and second wave- because there were always cases going by large numbers - maharashtra and Kerala. Did you hear anyone even question why the cases were such high in number and what the govt was doing?

Atleast CBN had to work 91/2 years in his first stint as CM to earn a title of being a good CM. Uddav became the best CM in a matter of 1-2 months. No media questioned anything about the covid cases and what was being done.

People were asked to beat thaalis and light diyas to have a shared view of the pandemic and to move collectively and that is very difficult. the best example is this site, where any discussion on AP politics will devolve into Jagan, CBN and Pawan kalyan and abusing the other supporters. But very few will come with something that the state needs and what can be done which is again collectively agreed by everyone.
