New GC guy transitioning into IT

Asking for a friend who recently got GC(Parents immigrated 12 years ago) in his early thirties. He completed his B.Com in India & pursued MS in Accounting & CPA in US. He worked in Auditing at a mid size firm in NJ. He's unhappy with his career growth & income. He wants to transition to IT. He learned full stack Java online last 5 months & SF Admin+Developer. He doesn't have any IT experience. Where should he start? How should he prepare for Interviews?

Given his background, Ur frnd should consider getting into ERP functional, then into technofunctional/technical roles if interested.

Look for finance transformation projects. Gain expertise either in SAP or ORACLE APPS etc. Get atleast one functional  certification to gain credibility.

He is interested in becoming a Java/Python developer or something related it. Is it possible to have a stable career/ job along those lines instead of FinTech?

Getting into erp is smooth transition. He can use his old skills, blend it with erp technology, its convincing for employers to hire ur frnd for the backbround he brings. Its like asking someone to write a sentence who already knows the grammar.

Python/java - offers stable career, but it is not smooth transition to your frnd. Having interest is good, but can learn  only to a certain extent. Its a catch22 situation. Unless ur frnd has realtime experience on javapython, employerss might not hire him. Unless somebody hires him, he wont get realtime experience.

Apply for an auditor position in big4 consulting companies to start with and move towards Cyber Security with CISA/CISSP if interested. That way his past experience would also count. With a Big4 experience for a few years(3-5 years) he can move into any MNC for their internal Audit teams. Audit teams generally report into the CFO orgs and there would enough growth opportunities.

Second is move to something like a SAP-FICO/SAP Simple Finance certifications and play the role of a Functional Finance consultant. In both cases, his previous experience in Accounting and CPA would help him.

Well, I would not suggest programming roles unless he is very good at coding and enjoys doing it. Most of the coding roles get overwhelming as they have to keep learning new things and doing so without a real inclination is taxing.
