I would rate Singapore Airlines better or on par with Middle east ones, if Air India matches Singapore, they can do very good business.

Share holder endi inka, Vistara is being merged with Air India and in exchange Singapore Airlines are given 25% in Air India, Air Asia Express is merged with Air India Express. 

Singapore Airlines are part of management at Air India and they are the ones who are overseeing efficiency in operations. Singapore also own a stake in ground handling operations SATS. With Lufthansa, Air India plans to train pilots and staff at their facilities on Germany and use their existing facilities for MRO. 
 

Tata’s have picked 100 experts from TCS who have worked for various airlines earlier and deputed them to Air India services. They already moved over to Amadeus ticketing system, hired a london based firm for overhauling interiors, Starting a new training institute to train manpower and cabin crew and its already India’s best on time performance airline, leased b777’s and now flies 42 services per week to USA. 
 

In one year, they have come across a long way. With Lufthansa and Singapore code share and their expertise, Air India has all chances to become a good airline. 
 

Most people may be unaware of this fact but Lufthansa and Singapore Airlines wanted to be stakeholder in Air India when The govt planned privatizing Air India way back in 2003. Better late than never…
