There used to be a code of honour and chivalry among india and pak soldiers. I hope we can reclaim it, despite a Govt that would want us to hate...

In 1996, Air Chief Marshal Parvez Mehdi Qureshi was appointed Chief of Air Staff of the Pakistan Air Force. Not many people recognised Qureshi as the same pilot who was a 'guest' of India as a PoW, after the Sabre he was flying, was shot down by then Flying Officer Donald Lazarus, flying a Gnat of the 22 Sqn IAF, from Dum Dum Airport, during the Boyra air battle in 1971. When the news was reported in India, Don Lazarus decided to write to Qureshi. Lazarus wrote a letter congratulating Qureshi for his achievement in becoming CAS and mentioned that Qureshi may not recall his earlier meeting with Lazarus, which was in the air. Perhaps Lazarus did not expect a reply to the letter, but it seemed the right thing to do, to wish someone well, whom he had met in battle, a couple of decades ago.

To his surprise, a staff officer for Qureshi wrote a reply saying that they have received the letter addressed to the CAS and thanking Lazarus for the greetings. Normally one would have thought that this would have been the end of the matter. But it was not to be.

Don Lazarus received a further surprise, when a letter came signed by the Pakistani CAS himself. Air Chief Marshal Qureshi expressed his thanks to Lazarus for his wishes and complimented him on the 'fight' shown by the Indian Pilots on the occasion, 22 Nov 1971.

Pak Army is a rogue army, their treatment of Saurabh Kalia is the worst kind of treatment you can mete out to your fellow human. Not to mention a violation of Geneva code, take off your colored glasses.
