Non-natives trying to speak in American accent is such an antiquated and anachronistic idea. Whether it is sports, politics or in business circles most non-native celebrity foreigners do speak in their regular, original accent. Just try and have a listen to Satya Nadella or a Sundar Pichai - they don't have what you would call a typical American accent.  There's absolutely no shame in speaking in our own distinct but native accent.

NTR's interview sounds very cringeworthy - only because we all know NTR would not speak in this accent otherwise. It is one thing to learn an accent within a movie for a role or a performance (a lot of British/Australian actors learn American accent to act in Hollywood movies) but it is another thing to sport a fake accent in real life.

Last but not the least NTR is a very accomplished actor - he should trust that his performances in his movies would showcase his mettle as an actor - he need not speak in this fake accent to platform himself.

There is no hard and fast rule that non-natives shouldn’t speak in ‘American’ accent. But, it should come out naturally is the point. In this case, its fake and irritating.
