Promotion is a double edge sword.

+ves - salary increase, Growth, visibility in org, etc.

-ves - new Job role, expectations, during job cuts people with high salaries are usually cut.

If you are interested in a new job role, start doing that already by talking to your manager. If you are doing good and like it, your manager sees the potential and the effort you are putting, you will be considered for a promotion. If you do not like the new role, you can always revert back. If you are promoted, no pressure/stress for you as you already are performing these job duties.
