Recommend for 40+, but no harm in doing it sooner if u suspect any gut issues. It’s just a scan using camera. They give anesthesia.

Is it just a scan or it cleanses the intestines also?

Just a scan and they remove if polyps are found and will send it to biopsy.

But they will give a medication which cleanses intenstines. Clear intenstines is prerequeiste for scan

they first give meds and limited diet plan to ensure our intestines are clean.
then they put a camera inside and physically see if any issues.
as someone pointed out they might take out small growths if any and do a biopsy on it to check if cancerous.

it’s a routine in the US at around 45, and earlier if issues or if parents had colon cancer.

Btw, also have ur parents in India also have it done. It’s a good preventative check.
It seems men are most affected by colon cancers comparatively.

other than detecting cancer , does it help health in any way right after the procedure?

@Lachana

no it’s just a visual scan for doc to visually see if any issues. they literally pass a tube with a camera in front of it. no health benefits others than detecting cancer type problems.
