Asalu ee East facing non sense ni theesukochindhi Baapans naa matta gaallu. Every other caste was made to work hard in sun light and had plenty of Vitamin D. But these pittu Bapans wanted badly Vitamin D because they will not step out from their houses and found the easiest way to get that is during the mornings. So performing some mantras and facing the early morning sun needs some space, so preferred East facing with Varendah. Left that North East for some other purpose. And after centuries people got used to that non sense. Tell me frankly what will you do with East facing house in high rise apartments when you cant even see the sun? Same with independent houses facing each other and having no chance of sunlight even if its East facing?

Pure East West ayite… G pagala enda paduddi. If you have no help from surrounding trees. Of course if you have houses next to next then only my logic works.
