ledu bro, DRDO is like a nodal agency, Tejas main work done by ADA and NAL (which i think has been wound up). HAL is the production agency that strictly manufactures what ADA gives them in drawings, very little research from their side but a lot of production experience. They have also spent a lot of time trying to set up private companies to manufacture different parts of Tejas, hence partial reasons for delay.

Right now we have good knowledge on composites that have been used for manufacturing the main body of the fighter, and we have enough expertise to get the AESA radar UTTAm to get into the MK1A version (incidentally, it will be the second one after Rafale which has AESA radar in the IAF).

The thing we are still lacking as per world class standards is the engine, work is ongoing, so collaboration or own research or some combination of work, borrow or steal to get it going is the guess.

what you have said while being correct, we have a couple of levers, targeting Chinese centers would mean involving long range missiles like Agni and that is a serious escalation, once missiles are up nobody knows if they are nuclear armed or conventional and deterrance tends to break down, hence always will be used as a last resort i think.

We too could try hacking their transport or electricity grid, but the biggest leverage we have is the blockade of Malacca Straits through which most of China's trade goods pass. that is one pressure point.

Just like you have said I don't expect the chinese to fight seriously in the himalayas, the one child prince lings are too precious for the chinese to sacrifice in the himalayan ranges.

Every body uses the other to get ahead in geopolitics, that is not new. And you don't need to create BRICS to surrender to china, you can do that without BRICS also.

What BRICS does is create an alternate groupings that is solely not dependent on US/West. 

India has been talking about multipolar world for a while now and India does a lot of these regional groupings, we are part of SCO, BRICS, now the newly formed QUAD, we also have a separate Indo-Japan deal with regards to the Indo-pacific region, we have separate deals with France with in the ambit of the Indian ocean, the delas with Saudi, UAE Oman another issue altogether.

US will help/align with India as long as it helps them and once they don't need they will discard the alliance. As Kissinger said "to be America's enemy is dangerous but to be Americas friend is fatal". Every country will do what is in its best interests and we should be doing the same.
