Since the christians worship on sunday, they made the work days starting from Monday to Saturday. Since jews worship on Saturday and called saturday as no work day and eventually they became the big business heads across the globe off late, to avoid the conflict they(both) resolved and made Sat & Sun as holidays. so per the calendar we're following now, Sunday is the first day of the week and Saturday is the seventh day.
