A recent IIT Kanpur study suggested that electric vehicles are doing more harm to the environment. Battery Electric Cars (BEVs) emit 15-50 per cent more greenhouse gases in different categories than other vehicles, according to the study.

Raw materials like lithium

Cobalt and neodymium generate more pollution in their  refining

Extract and processing

than avg car which runs for 200k kms

Anduke Toyota was hesitant on moving towards electric

Looks this way a company which sells 10mncars a year knows more about cars than avg joe on street..

Unless Toyota sells Corolla ev it's not wise to buy an ev it's my personal opinion

clean source for energy is required and should move away from coal.

should not stop development of EV for that reason. development in solar and nuclear power will help .

EV is an intermediate fuel, and won't be around for a long time as ICE engines did. maybe another 20-30 years before we start running cars on Hydrogen.

Hydrogen is the future fuel...

Plot twist that hybrid cars have batteries too and they also cause same harm as fully electric cars over their lifetime.

at this time both are same but the environment safety comes from reusing these materials from old cars either part of accident damaged or retired ones. That’s where lot of R&D is happening and helps the env.

I can’t predict the future but fuel cell at this point is very hard thing to achieve in mass scale. Producing hydrogen, transporting and storing is very costly. Also hydrogen is highly flammable. Compared to gas cars, electric cars catch fire less. If you ask me the order from high risk to low, it’s hydrogen and then gas and then electric. But R&D might change the order. We never know. Also Tesla was able to setup its own charging network. For a single company to do that with fuel cell it’s massive undertaking and I don’t think it can be achieved unless car companies come together which might not happen.

30 years back, 300 mile battery car which can get charged in 20 mins was quite a myth but with new technologies and advancements, what was unheard of is now a reality.

Hydrogen is definitely future fuel, give it another 20-30 years and you could see heavy trucks, fleets, buses will run on Hydrogen replacing diesels. It’s at a very nascent stage so it will take some time and investments are just pouring into this tech so give it some time.

India will be the first mass market of hydrogen. Maha Cements factory converted 4 of its trucks to hydrogen and successfully running then now, although it has its limitations and with Reliance, Ashok Leylnd, Tata entering in the segment, we could see practical usage of hydrogen powered fleets.

That’s what I said R&D might change things but hydrogen fuel cell will live on side but will not be like ice cars. Hybrid and hydrogen cars still need batteries of some size. Not sure what benefit hydrogen cars give.
