The air quality on the East Coast is bad today, June 7, 2023, due to smoke from wildfires in the western United States and Canada. The smoke has been carried by the jet stream and cross-continental winds, triggering health alerts thousands of miles away.

The smoke contains tiny particles that can irritate the lungs and worsen respiratory problems such as asthma and bronchitis. It can also worsen heart disease and cause other health problems, such as headaches, nausea, and vomiting.

The air quality is expected to improve as the smoke dissipates, but it is important to take precautions if you are experiencing symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, or shortness of breath. Here are some tips for protecting yourself from the smoke:

* Stay indoors as much as possible.
* If you must go outside, wear a mask that can filter out small particles.
* Limit your physical activity.
* Drink plenty of fluids.
* Monitor your health and seek medical attention if you experience any symptoms.

You can check the air quality in your area by visiting the website of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EPA website provides real-time air quality data for all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

The air quality on the East Coast is expected to improve in the coming days, but it is important to take precautions to protect yourself from the smoke.

The wildfires that have been causing poor air quality on the East Coast started in late May and early June 2023. The largest fires are in the western United States, including California, Oregon, and Washington. The fires have also been burning in Canada, particularly in British Columbia.

The fires have been caused by a combination of factors, including dry weather, high winds, and lightning. The dry weather has been caused by a La Niña weather pattern, which is a climate pattern that causes cooler-than-average ocean temperatures in the central and eastern Pacific Ocean. La Niña typically brings more rain to the southwestern United States, but this year it has brought less rain, which has contributed to the dry conditions.

The high winds have also contributed to the spread of the fires. The winds have been blowing the flames from one area to another, making it difficult to contain the fires. The lightning has also started some of the fires.

The fires have caused widespread damage. They have destroyed homes, businesses, and other structures. They have also forced thousands of people to evacuate their homes. The fires have also caused air quality problems in the western United States and Canada. The smoke from the fires has been carried by the jet stream and cross-continental winds, triggering health alerts thousands of miles away.

The fires are still burning, and it is not clear when they will be extinguished. The fire season is typically in the summer, but this year it has started early. The dry weather and high winds are expected to continue, which could lead to more fires.

Northern china also suffers from the same phenomenon , no wind to carry all the pollution generated in the winter

But beijing authorities took so many drastic steps to improve air quality since 2008 onwards , shutting down all polluting industries in 200km radius, no trash burning , no coal power plants , etc

India can't even stop farm fires in Punjab, indias state capacity is just horrible
