Depends on Type of GC you have.
Is it  GC through marriage and applying within 3 years

OR on GC for over 5 years without extended stay outside US ?

Ledu chicha. Within 3 years of getting married cheste they don’t have to deal with the long processing times for biometrics and background checks . It would save 2-3 months !

I've seen people who got their citizenship through employment and marriage as recently as last month.

It takes 8 or more months to get the interview letter after filing N400 (based on the field office where the N400 was filed).

https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/

They set a date of 30 days in the interview letter to attend the interview so it is actually 9+ months for the interview. Read your N400 application before the interview as they will ask you each and every question you answered in your application. N400 allows you to change your name without any extra cost. If you have any properties in India, it is recommended to keep your name as-is and not change it in N400.

They may do the oath ceremony on the same day of interview if there are no issues. Otherwise, your application goes into review/advisement and they send you the approval/denial letter about 4 months after the interview. If it is approved, they invite you to attend the oath ceremony which is another 1 month from the date of approval. You can search for what to do next if your application gets denied (can happen due to incomplete info, etc - see below).

You can sign up for an online account with USCIS and monitor the progress of your application live.

At the oath ceremony, you get awarded the Certificate of Naturalization. CONGRATS!!

You have to wait a couple weeks before applying for the US passport.

You have to pay a visit to the social security office.

You have to surrender Indian passport and apply for an OCI card which will take their own "sweet" times.

Not sure if there are any other procedures to follow.

So if you are planning a visit overseas based on your citizenship and US passport, you have to account for all these processing times and delays.

N400 DENIAL DUE TO CONVICTIONS

A good moral character is crucial to N400 approval 5 years prior to the application date. USCIS takes a mathematical approach when it comes to any crimes and convictions. 1+1 = 2. It doesn't matter if it was a misdemeanor or felony or if you did not go to jail (some judges let you go home in the interests of taking care of your family or business - even if you were convicted and if you have a good lawyer) but the conviction stays on your record.

If you were convicted of any crime that is subject to 1 year or more of jail time, USCIS will deport you (even if it was a misdemeanor or if you did not go to jail)! If you went to jail on the 1 year or more conviction, USCIS will wait for you outside the prison on your release day to whisk you away and deport you right away. Even if they don't come get you and deport you on their own after the conviction for whatever reason, don't get cozy and assume they won't - they will deport you when you file an application like I-90 GC Renewal or when you visit them (they will wait for you - the system is not perfect). So if there are any convictions on your record like CIMT, DV, etc. that have a jail time of 1 year or more, stay away from USCIS, don't file I-90 etc. and resolve the issues first using a lawyer to have the conviction reduced in a post-conviction relief motion or something (if you are eligible). In these cases, filing I-90 is a surefire $540 deportation ticket you are buying it yourself!

If you were convicted of a crime that is subject 1 or more years of jail time within the first 5 years of your entry into US, you will be deported and there is NO recourse to it. Immigration Law is classified as Federal Law and it is the same across the 50 states which means you can hire a lawyer from any state.

There is something called lawful resident status which does not expire even if your GC expires unless you over-stay overseas or get deported or get naturalized (GC is just a proof of your status to show for employment, banking, flying, etc). a GC is valid for 10 years and you have that much time to resolve any issues before it expires. If you are employed and your GC expires, no need to freak out as no one will verify your GC continually (your lawful resident status does not expire). But it is difficult to get a job and impossible to renew your driver license with an expired GC (no need to explain the hardships without a DL which is required for everything in USA - employment, flying, banking, apartment, loans...). Also if your Indian passport expires during this rigmarole, you cannot renew your PP with an expired GC and you will get stuck.
