don't recommend it

get water delivery service with dispenser from Costco if you' don't like tap water. it's pretty cheap

I use a whole house filter and a filtration system with a softener and the water tastes great

RO is known to remove minerals and electrolytes from water and it's not good to drink everyday. people have varied opinions but this is what it does

primowater from costco charges $5/m for dispenser and $6 for 5 gallon jug. $12 delivery charge. Use this water just for drinking and tap water for everything else. local companies can be cheaper

wholehouse/sediment filter - traps debris or sediment

filtration - filters water and improves taste

softener - removes certain minerals and softens water, improves taste

descaler not required if you have softener

You can add reminineralization filter after ro, which is what I did.

To Op:

My setup is liKe this

Softener > ro > re-mineralization filter

Softener- culligan

Ro - waterdrop

AO Smith 45000 grain softener

be wise and don’t spend too much money on softeners. A decent one like this works as good  as a $2000 system

You can, and that’s what bottled water does but why add complexity. Tap water in US is one of the safest you can drink

Dont generalize tap quality, it all depends on your local water bodies..

As the saying goes different strokes for diff folks.. i just chose this to avoid those bottled water refil etc.
