Telangana CM K Chandrashekar Rao expressed happiness at the state winning awards in five different categories, marking the first time any structures from India were awarded the International Green Apple Awards

A statement from the office of Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA & UD) Minister KT Rama Rao said that this was the first time any building structures from India were awarded the Green Apple Environment awards, adding that Telangana gets the honour of receiving all five awards.

While the Nizam-era Moazzam Jahi market won the award in the heritage category for excellent restoration and reuse, the cable-stayed hanging bridge over Durgam Cheruvu won the award for its unique design. The recently-inaugurated Dr BR Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat building won the award in the category of aesthetically designed office or workspace building. The new Integrated Command and Control Centre of the state police won the award in the unique office category. The revamped Yadagirigutta Narasimha Swamy temple won the award in the category of excellent religious structures category.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, in a statement, expressed his happiness on Telangana’s achievement. This reaffirms the futuristic planning in building designs and architecture and will act as a great impetus in the real estate sector in Hyderabad and Telangana, he said.

The past winners of the award include buildings like the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) in London, the National Museum of Qatar, and Jalan Mahkota in Kuantan, Malaysia.

The Telangana government has been regularly enlisting its projects and initiatives at global platforms for international recognition. Earlier, the MA & UD department with support from the National Institute of Urban Management (NIUM), had applied for the ‘International Green Apple Awards for Beautiful Buildings’ under the Urban & Real Estate Sector, on behalf of the State Government of Telangana.

The MA & UD special chief secretary Arvind Kumar has been deputed by the state to receive the awards at the awards ceremony to be held in London on June 16.
