If you drive 15k / yr you save 2250$ more in 5 years for Honda CRV Hybrid compare to gas

which means for each year its 450$ savings

this is based on 45% highway and 55% city driving

so purely on a cost basis, spending 5k is not a good choice as you can probably use the cost difference to run a gas vehicle for more than 11 years assuming the gas prices stay the same(which they will not)

don't just consider cost, consider a few other things:

  • Hybrids are good for start/stop traffic so if you do a lot of city driving and run a lot of errands then its best
  • Honda CRV Hybrid vs Non hybrid range difference is like 140 miles (560 vs 420) so fewer trips to gas stations in general

Battery warranty is 8 years and not 5 years like you mentioned.

I Have both Hybrid and Electric

Hybrid ( Hyundai Ioniq)

I drive 1400 miles once every month on highway to other state , Hybrid mileage is around 48 / gallon

Another 400 miles , when I am home for rest of the 3 weeks mileage 60 / gallon City mileage

for this driving I pay around 130 to 140 dollars for gas monthly

This car has highway drive assist and all the bells and whistles of Tesla except for auto lane change.

My wife drives Tesla , we had Tesla little over 4 months and we paid 200 dollars for 4K miles based on charge stats on Tesla ( we did few long trips in Tesla )

so did save some on gas On electric and hybrid.

I would definitely go with Hybrid , you will drive a lot
