While your argument is true, I also think that affirmative action a.k.a reservation will end up increasing the disparity like it has done in several other countries or even here in the US with Native Indian clauses.

I also think that there are other ways to help lift the marginalized communities, which should be tried first before exploring affirmative action like Invest in education (Schools, Colleges & Prestige Institutions), Child care support so more of them can go to work, a concession for factories to be established in these communities, fair labor practices (pay equality, affordable infrastructure (Low-cost internet, Healthcare) - few more in the right direction.

India lo reservations is political ba. Initialy ambedkar was aath care about reservations.

As soon as muslims got seperate electorate, dalits also wanted seperate electorate. muslims ki ok anna mahaanubhavudu gandhi, dalits deggar NO antu guddalu chindhukoni fast un to death annadu.

Then when ambedkar went to talk to him and said you dont want us in your temples and see as untouchable then why should be hindus annadu. Then gandhi gave guarentees of reservatioins.

us aath care about ending racism. india aath care about ending casteism.

Big difference is 70% of americans are white. . In india 70 percent plus are reserved . so no comparision at all.

This won't do much to help Asian students. Infact affirmative action seats are very small percentage 

The main problem with american universities is legacy admissions , some universities like Harvard have close to 50% seats reserved for rich people who can buy their way in without any merit 

For example Trumps son in law Jared kushners parents paid 2.5 mil$ donation to secure a seat , he didn't even have 2.5 GPA which means you cannot even apply for Harvard

By same example Rahul Gandhi got into Harvard being a below average student . A merit student would have a tough chance even if he scored perfectly in all classes in school
