Maryland Vehical registration question , Moved out of state.

I need to change my vehical registation from maryland to georgia.

To change my registation to georgia, I need to have an inurance policy in Georgia. In order to do this, I need to cancel my existing inurance policy(as far as I know we can have only one active policy) in maryland but this can be done only after I return my plates.  If I return my plates and later cancel my insurance, I will be unable to drive in georia until I get the registration done here. Please help with suggestions

According to https://mva.maryland.gov/ this is what is says:

WARNING: Do not cancel your insurance until you are sure that the MVA has received your license plates. Failure to do so could result in a large fine.

update address in existing insurance thats it. Geico even allows temp address change without car registration

When you move out of state, you'll need a new car insurance policy, even if you can stay with the same insurer. Your insurance company will cancel your old policy because every state has different coverage requirements and regulations.

You can only have one policy at a time. But in my situation I need both the policies to be active. I'm not sure how to do that.

Does GA requires new insurance?

Anyways, looks like you are using  progressive , call them and say your move is temporary meaning only 2 months.. they will allow address change without cancelling.. then take  printout and do the registration .

What should I do if my move is temporary?

Even if you intend that your move will be temporary, you must notify your insurance company. Depending on the laws in your state, you may be able to keep the coverage you had on your old policy.
