Lab to manufacturing is minimum 5+ years. I didn't hear anything to suggest they are closer to manufacturing. 

Even with existing battery technology, all other manufactured are struggling to build cars - look at number of recalls.

Battery + thermal management+ charging etc is complex system with lot of risks.

Only Tesla and VW are ahead...

They are all about reliability. They will test it hundreds of times before they launch. They won’t mess with their signature brand reputation.

Tesla is a crappy version of EV. Lithium battery is one of the many technologies in ev industry. Solid state and hydrogen cars will come out soon. They probably wont compete with Tesla on lithium battery domain. They will come out with their own niche. Especially veteran car makers such as Toyota, Honda and some German companies.
