Toyota claims are all bullsh*t , their only EV uses a chinese battery which has sh*t range and extremely slow to charge by 2023 standards

They can't even produce their PHEV vehicles , how can they produce EVs ?

Are you saying that largest car manufacturer will become obsolete in the ev era? Their customer base is very strong. Don’t forget the fact that they came up with first hybrid car ever. That was a radical change on its own. They hold 1000s of patents in automative technology. I’m very optimistic about Toyotas prospects. Let’s wait and watch.

I think they do. It’s either Prius prime or RAV4 prime. I’m not sure. But they do.

Have you tried ordering a RAV4 prime in last 3 years ? 18 month waiting list , huge markups

If they can't produce a car with 18Kwh battery then they sure can't produce EVs starting  with 80 kwh

Toyota is 5-6 years behind than most manufacturers regarding EVs

Tesla is a crappy version of EV. Lithium battery is one of the many technologies in ev industry. Solid state and hydrogen cars will come out soon. They probably wont compete with Tesla on lithium battery domain. They will come out with their own niche. Especially veteran car makers such as Toyota, Honda and some German companies.

Sometimes average products win and superior products lose out in the market. History has plenty of examples...

Betamax vs VHS is one example.

Windows vs Unix/Mac

Only Toyota and Honda tried hydrogen and it is not going anywhere ... Do you really think they can create a 3rd distribution channel parallel to gas and ev ? Train left the station....

Only incremental advances will come in future - primarily in battery tech.

Did you even read the article? They were researching and got a breakthrough on new battery tech which is not mass produced yet.

Markups have nothing to do with manufacturer, they’re dealer antics

Toyota was heavily invested in hydrogen fuel cells and already have cars in CA. They were betting on it against EVs but “realized” they have to invest in ev tech as well and are doing it. Coming to why they don’t have many yet is because their ICE business is way more profitable than any other manufacturer and Toyota is a conservative company which doesn’t release products unless they’re tested for years. With their huge supply chain it won’t take long for them to catch up to Tesla and they will do it.
