Good point of view. I can also add that it makes for new managers to take decisions against non performing emps or emps in insignificant roles.

Non-performing employees meedha anyone can take action, even the current manager. Manager can’t shield such employees for long risking his own portfolio.

exactly, but companies doing reorg have this benefit though…

They do it to break existing rapport between manager and employee so that employee finds a new manager all of a sudden, which in turn delays promotion/hikes.

maa company lo last 1yr lo 3 re-orgs. I was positively impacted first time and negative for the other 2. Theu could have done just one major re-org instead but could have been very hectic.

adhe magiccu… even in your case, you were negatively impacted more times than positive. Its all thought-through evil process.

Managers typically tries to protect their teams. They may not take action until there is pressure on them. In these situations, the old manager may still give recommendation but its easy for new manager to talk to team saying its not in his/her control.

You can’t just ‘protect’, without showing KPIs/growth/delivery to leadership. Its hard for a manager to reach his own goals, keeping underperforming employees in the team. In this context, definition of under performing employees is, the ones who are supposed to be fired.

Sometimes, managers try to keep these emps .. for when difficult times strike to get rid. Also sometimes, a headcount lost, they may not get back, so keep them. Lots of factors.

I also considered under performing emps as the ones to be fired.
