My wife had some chest pain, so we visited urgent care. After few hours, urgent care folks told us that we need to transfer her to hospital to run some more tests and I can’t take care in my car. They specifically said that, she has to be transported through an ambulance. She got her tests done and is doing better. After a month, we receive a bill of $7000 for a 15mil trip from this ambulance company out of nowhere and they said your insurance is not going to cover anything and we have to bear all costs. At no point, we were told that ambulance trip is not covered in insurance. We are okay to pay portion of it, but this $7000 bill is outrageous.
We have explained our situation to insurance company as well and they said they can’t do anything What can we do here?

Ambulance charges are outrageous here in the US. We had to shell out 3-4K 5 yrs ago for an emergency. I think all costs shot up in the past couple of years.
Please try to exlain your situation they will consider. For my husband they charged $4800 when we negotiated they reduced $2000 upfront. Insurance wont cover that is private companies in usa
Welcome to United States of America and health care. Try to negotiate with the ambulance company and ask them for monthly payment plan

Healthcare system in US is a joke… but as many suggested here, you can politely try to negotiate, explain your situation and they may consider reducing the amount.

So shocking. The US is such a mess. Have no suggestions for this situation but this book is interesting and details all such tricks hospitals/doctors play to bilk patients out of maximum possible money. The last part of the book contains strategies on dealing with hospitals, doctors and insurers. Could be useful maybe for the future: https://www.amazon.co.uk/American-Sickness.../dp/1594206759
