True.. it is not worth his time.. he got lot of bad name and got exposed to the public in bad light.. his time and intelligence would be better put to use in a different company..

His ego needs to be put in check. He knows its a bad investment and he is killing it completely. Lets see what he does.

What Musk wants is X.com to be a clone of the "everything app" WeChat of Tencent. While WeChat has been extremely successful in China, there's no such app in the US to assess the potential success or failure of X.com. 

Musk has so many haters in the mainstream media who has always predicted "doom" not just for Twitter but for every company that Musk owns. 

Zuckerberg's "Threads" app has so far disappointed as the number of daily users has drastically come down since the day it was rolled out despite the mainstream media praising "Threads" as "Twitter Killer".

Not only did it not kill Twitter, but the app has also failed to get any new subscribers or sustain the buzz it had generated with much hype. 

The only person that has ability to kill Twitter is Musk himself. Although we might be tempted to say that he's doing a very good job of killing Twitter so far citing its bleeding revenue,  but Warren Buffet & Bill Gates often say "Don't under estimate Musk".
