Hinduism is not a true religion, it is a way of life. Hinduism doesn’t have hard codes rules.

Here are some reasons often cited for this practice:

  1. Purity and Ritual Impurity: Hindu funeral rituals involve touching the deceased and engaging in specific rites that are considered to create ritual impurity. In some traditional beliefs, women are seen as the caretakers of the household and the family's purity. To avoid any potential transference of ritual impurity, certain tasks related to death and cremation were historically assigned to men.

  2. Emotional Considerations: Dealing with death and the cremation process can be emotionally challenging. It was believed that women might be more emotionally affected by these events, and therefore, men were typically entrusted with the responsibility of performing the funeral pyre ceremony.

  3. Historical Roles: Traditionally, certain tasks and responsibilities were assigned based on gender roles prevalent in society. This was not unique to Hinduism but a feature found in various cultures around the world. As societies have evolved and progressed, these gender-based norms have been challenged and have begun to change

Prathi aacharaaniki oka paddhati anedi untundi. Women empowerment antu ila eshtam vachinattu cheyyakudadu. I think she has a Son but not sure why he didn't come.

Atleast her Son-in-law should perform those rites but unfortunately her daughter got divorced.

as far i understand girls were married off and would never be able to come in time due to transportation at that time. so son used do it and it became mandatory that only son should do it later on. there is no just restriction

Sathi sahaganam kaadu sahagamanam , Sathi ni aapindi oka Hinduve, ancient Hindu women followed sathi willingly because of their pure love for their husband later on people made it into ritual
